Athol Public Library - 2014
DAS served as General Contractor for the expansion and renovation of the historic Athol Public Library, a landmark project that combined preservation of the original Carnegie library building with the construction of a substantial addition designed to support modern library services. DAS managed the complex challenges associated with historic renovation, construction of the new addition, and implementation of sustainable building systems while maintaining the integrity of the original structure.
The completed library provides expanded collections areas, community gathering spaces, improved accessibility, and modern library amenities while preserving one of Athol's most treasured historic buildings. The project is particularly notable for its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The Athol Public Library became one of the first historic library projects of its kind to pursue and achieve LEED Platinum certification, demonstrating that historic preservation, community investment, and high-performance sustainable design can successfully coexist within a single project.
