Westfield State University
Ely Library & Campus Center Upgrades
Westfield, MA - 2009

DAS provided Construction Management at Risk services for this project; DCAMM’s first project that included renovation under this delivery method.
It was also DCAMM’s first CMR project where trade contractors were required to meet requirements for minority owned and/or women owned businesses. At the heart of WSU’s campus, the original library and campus center buildings were constructed by DAS over 30 years ago. They consist of 40,000 sqft. of offices, classrooms, a library, theater, bookstore, gallery, wellness center, and TV studio.
Extensive phased additions and renovations from 2007 to 2009 improved the building’s operation characteristics, accessibility, and modernized the building systems - including elevators, plumbing, fire protection, HVAC, and electrical systems. Although not LEED certified, the project included locally manufactured materials, low-flow toilets and auto-shut off faucets, optimization of energy performance, and recycled content materials. The Ely Library / Campus Center Upgrades project was completed on time and under budget, which led to a DCAMM evaluation score of a perfect 100.
